English

Excellent Accuracy•≤5% WER

English is the language most subtitle tools are tuned for, which means the baseline is competent and the differences show up in the details: spelling convention, quote glyphs, and whether a line break lands somewhere a reader can absorb in one glance.

Line breaks that follow English grammar

The segmenter carries an English model of clause structure alongside the French one. It prefers to break before coordinating conjunctions and relative pronouns, and avoids ending a line on a determiner, preposition, or auxiliary. A subtitle that ends on the or of forces the reader to hold an incomplete phrase across a cue change, which is what makes machine subtitles tiring to read even when the words are right.

American spelling and curly quotes

Our English house style is American spelling and grammar with curly quotation marks (“ ”, ‘ ’). The AI Reviewer enforces both, and treats tense consistency in historical narration as a substantive check rather than a stylistic one, which matters for documentary work where a single slipped tense changes the claim.

Reading speed you control

Reading speed is measured in characters per second and enforced before the first cue is written, not patched afterwards. The threshold is a project setting rather than a fixed number, so a fast-cut corporate piece and a contemplative documentary can each get the pacing they need.

Common English subtitle mistakes

Generic engine

She never returned to the
house where she was born.

Hello8

She never returned to the house
where she was born.

Breaking after the strands a determiner from its noun. Breaking before where lands on a relative pronoun, which starts a clause.

Generic engine

"It's the only copy," he said.

Hello8

“It’s the only copy,” he said.

Straight quotes and a straight apostrophe. Correct typography is the difference between broadcast-ready and obviously automated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get British spelling instead?
Yes. State it in the project briefing and the reviewer applies British conventions consistently across the track rather than leaving a mix.
Do you produce SDH captions?
Yes. Speaker identification and non-speech information can be included, and diarization runs during transcription so speaker turns are already segmented.
